This international research project explores the educational landscape of Gestalt therapy around the world.
The study aims to compare training conditions, ethical standards, theoretical foundations, examination requirements, costs, duration, and program structures across Gestalt institutes on all continents and in major world languages.
The research is conducted in three key stages:
Comparative Analysis of Training Conditions
In this stage, we collect data from open online sources to compile a global list of Gestalt institutes. We analyze and compare training conditions, ethical guidelines, and cultural specificities across different schools, countries, and regions.
Interviews with Key Stakeholders
We conduct qualitative interviews with four groups of participants:
Directors of Gestalt institutes
Trainers and faculty members
Current students
Former students and graduatesThese interviews provide deeper insight into the lived experience of training, institutional values, and variations in educational practices.
Survey of Practicing Gestalt Therapists
Based on insights from the first two stages, we develop a comprehensive questionnaire aimed at understanding therapists’ perspectives on training. Topics include strengths and challenges of their educational experience, ethical considerations, theoretical orientation, and professional identity.
This study seeks to explore fundamental questions, such as:
What defines a Gestalt therapist?
How do different cultures and countries conceptualize this role?
What constitutes the minimum necessary education to be recognized as a Gestalt therapist?
How does training influence therapeutic practice?
What are the strong points of Gestalt education?
Are there critical blind spots or systemic issues within existing programs?
Through this project, we aim to foster dialogue, raise professional standards, and support the ongoing evolution of Gestalt Therapy education worldwide.
